Web Lucie is the blog and nom de plume of Lucie Follett, co-founder of Maven Metrics, a web analytics and internet marketing consultancy in London SW3.

I have a varied and colourful background to date which strongly informs my own professional outlook: Durham University graduate (BA Hons Classics, 1996), worked in investment banking (Japan equity sales) and then started my own business importing car parts to sell via niche sites. The latter is without doubt the most influential; there is nothing quite like the responsibility of P&L to hone one’s focus towards key objectives (: £ !)

Over the past few years, I have developed a strong interest in internet marketing and web analytics, initially as a result of wanting to learn how to increase my own online sales and find out why, even though I was getting lots of ‘traffic’ (as I understood it at the time…), why that was not translating into orders placed.

So began my own personal journey into reading and consuming as much as I possibly could and applying this to my own sites in a ‘hands-on’, proactive way.

Some things worked, some didn’t….but the over-arching lesson I learned is to view everything as a sum of its whole.

I am not a pure web analytics practitioner, nor am I a pure internet marketing specialist: my own perspective is that you can’t do one without the other. Ultimately, though, whatever is done must have a rigorously commercial objective as its goal: to make money.

web data + insight = action (*profitability*)
